Tata supercomputer ranks fourth, runs Linux

I came back from a nice long (and completely unplugged) break trekking around North East India (shameless plug: Check out my photos at Among the many e-mails that were accumulated in my inbox, the one that made me happiest was the news that India has finally broken into the TOP500 Supercomputer List. The icing on the cake is that it runs Linux!

This feat was achieved by the Pune-based Computational Research Laboratories, incorporated as a fully-owned subsidiary of Tata Sons with a mandate to achieve global leadership in the area of high-performance computing systems.

This is wonderful news for the open source community and the Indian IT fraternity!
